Swimming with Elephant

Here's the result of three-year-old Lyddie yelling, "Hey mom!  Come take a picture!  We're...."

The action at the end of that sentence changes and is rarely accurate to the actual activity I find on entering the room.  For example, here I think they were "swimming" with their elephant.  Or maybe sleeping in "bed" with Ellie.  Or something. The description is real and accurate to their imagination, which is all that matters, to me and to them.

I try intentionally to be very respectful of their play when the camera is in my hand these days (I am still so enjoying borrowing my brother's beautiful Canon SLR...and trying to make the most of the time I have to figure stuff out - obviously!).  I aim to not be intrusive or interrupt what their busy little hands and bodies are doing but rather to just quickly capture it for my own fun and play.  That must be working out okay because they still are willing to smile and pose for me when I do ask!  Agreeing to their requests of pictures on their own terms sometimes maybe helps too!

  1. It sounds like you are teaching them to be very creative too. I'll bet that they will want to take pretty pictures just like their mother one day. Imagination is always a wonderful thing to see in children too.

The pictures look just like fun and those ones of them playing and doing nearly always come out better. Those smiles pretty much rock to though ! :)
