yarn along: sweet things

Here I am nearly finished with Mi Avril, and none too soon, either, since my girlie's birthday is Friday!  I will finish it and have it blocked before then, since I have only five more rows of edging before casting off and weaving in the ends.  I hope she likes it, my little four year old fashionista!

I am still meandering my way through this installment of the Penderwicks while waiting for the third of The Magicians trilogy to arrive at the library.

This week begins a shift in my mind to our outdoor life.  I have been weeding and pruning for several weeks but I today I am planning to get seeds in the garden and sunflowers along the fence and then... and then... my plans are too big and I am paring them down to what I hope will be a manageable size.

Danger of frost appears to be over; we have had weather in the mid-80's this week. Usually I wouldn't think about putting sunflowers in for a few more weeks at least, but I'm placing my bet that it's safe now, at least for flowers.  I am going to plant them in a little flower bed across from our dining room window and maybe along the driveway and the idea of seeing bobbing heads of yellow right there all summer makes me smile since I spend so much time in that kitchen/dining room cooking and cleaning.  Each of my girls picked out a packet of flower seeds at the shop  -  pansies, marigolds, sunflowers.  I planted each girl's with her individually yesterday afternoon while the warm breeze whipped around us, and that time is a treasure, digging and weeding and planting alongside one another.  They fall asleep so quickly in this season with days full of sunshine and running and climbing.  I always think fall is my favorite season, until late spring arrives with all it's blustery warm freedom, that is.  Sweet, sweet things.

Linking up with Ginny for Yarn Along, as I have each week for the past two years.  It is a happy place for me and I hope it is for you, too.

  2. Happy almost birthday to your little one. I bet she will love her new cardigan, it looks beautiful!

I'm the same, I love the comfy cozy crisp autumn days and always say fall is my favorite, the scent of cinnamon and apples from the orchard, yum! However, there is certainly something about Spring and how the days get warmer, flowers blooming, it is very refreshing. It will be a few weeks yet before we can start our garden but I look forward to planting a vegetable/berry garden with the boys.

  3. Early b-day wishes to your girlie! I'll bet she'll love her new sweater, especially since it was made with love by her mama. :) There really is something to sowing seeds and getting our fingers into the dirt. Sunshine and fresh air always help me sleep!

  4. Hooray for getting the sweater done in time! She will love it. I feel like a Mimi failure not to have a hand knit for the birthday girls-but when I have Fall items to present them I will feel redeemed! Dad and Sam have been working on our garden this week-making it larger and digging up nasty bamboo roots from the yard next door. My rhubarb is growing like crazy and I made a crisp last weekend. Yum!
Can't wait to see you all.....2 days!!! <3

    1. Both girls' sweaters done!! I have been working like crazy on just those sweaters and put aside everything else... otherwise I know they wouldn't have been finished. They are soaking now and about to be blocked. Wish we had rhubarb, that is one of those things I want to plant but haven't gotten to. You are not a failure, you're a great Mimi!

  5. What an adorable little sweater for your little fashionista! I'm sure my almost 7 year old would love one as well...unfortunately I do not have enough time to get one made by her birthday in a couple weeks...slow knitter here. Perhaps for Christmas :-)

Yarn Along is a wonderfully happy place for me! I actually wrote a post about that a couple weeks ago. It's nice that we can set aside some time for ourselves each week, even if we're busy. It's almost like telling other people about your goals so they help keep you on track. :) Lovely sweater.
