Yarn Along, May 29

~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading!  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well.  So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now?  What are you reading?  Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr.  Leave a link over at Ginny's Yarn Along to share your photo with the rest of us!~

I have a FO this week!  I finished Adelaide's Acacia and I love how it turned out!  It is a wee big big on her but I guess that just means it will fit next year too!  I think she is a lucky redhead that she can pull off all shades of pink and most other colors besides.  Her complexion is really lovely.
I turned around and started Amelia's Acacia.  With both of them I had struggled to complete a magic loop cast on which normally doesn't give me such fits!  It took at least five tries before I got through the first section on each of the tops.  A few times, my yarn got twisted when I joined in the round, even though I was being SO careful... and on both of them I made some other random error in increases so the stitches weren't coming out right - I couldn't even figure out what I did wrong except to say that I was watching "Arrested Development" while working on them, so my attention was not what it should have been, I suppose.  At any rate, I finally got Amelia's cast on too and am finally making some headway, although I was hopeful I would be farther along than I am!

I feel such pride these days when I finish a book.  I finished Hinds' Feet in High Places this week (loved it!).  My next book choice was dictated by it's physical properties - it had to be easy to hold in one hand while nursing, since that's when I've been grabbing a chance to read a few pages here and there.  So I picked up Patricia St. John's The Secret of the Fourth Candle.  I have never read anything by her although as an author, she comes highly recommended.  She is an incredible writer and, as I am halfway through, this book seems to exemplify the Charlotte Mason concept of a "living book."  It introduces children (and adults) to an entirely different lifestyle and belief system - an impoverished little girl and her family from a Muslim background in North Africa while telling a beautiful story with gospel themes flowing throughout.

And it fits nicely in one hand, which is why I am already halfway through it.

  1. I love this pattern. The tank is so very feminine, just a wonderful choice.

Patricia St. John is present on our shelves. All of the girls read (and loved) 'Treasures In The Snow'. We'll have to search out the rest.

    Blessings, Debbie

  4. Adelaides top really is so gorgeous, well done on getting a fo in there and you with a wee babe ! Supermom! Amelia's top is such a wonderful orange shade it's going to look stunning. I've cast on the milo in a similar shade for Elizabeth just this evening. Oh I checked with my two leftie boys and both knit right handed ! One does some things right handed so I can understand how he does this and the other does very few things right handed but both knit right handed. Thank you for stopping by my blog.

  5. I absolutely love the coral color you are working with, I don't see it very often for some reason. I'm sure your little girl will grow into that jumper before you know it!

  6. That is a precious little top that you made. If it's a little too big, she could wear it next winter over a long sleeve blouse. You did a good job knitting it, too.

  7. Adorable! I loved Hinds' Feet in High Places (and have Mountain of Spices waiting to get to.) I'll have to look for your other suggestion - it sounds great.
