Yarn Along, Rio Again...

This week I am still working on Rosie's Rio dress but I added in a dishcloth in Sugar'n Cream to break up the stockinette with fingering that I have been doing on the dress for a few weeks now.  It's basically the popular diagonal knit dishcloth (one of my favorites) with a twist and I loved how it turned out.  I had JUST enough white yarn to finish it; I could hardly believe it.  I have about an inch tail after binding off! Whew!

Seriously, if you like classic literature and have an MP3 player of any kind, you should check out my new favorite obsession:  CraftLit with Heather Ordover. I just finished yesterday listening to Jane Eyre with the benefits of awesome commentary and other knitting/crafty news and interviews.  I plowed through it to catch up to where the current podcast is, and it was timed perfectly, since she just started airing and discussing Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence last Friday so I am just in time to start a new book live!  I am so in love with Jane that I picked up The Eyre Affair at the library a couple weeks ago.  I don't usually read a lot of contemporary fiction like Jasper Fforde's stuff lately but I am really enjoying the clever world he has created and I can't wait for my dear friend Jane to show up again.  I am hoping that I am not disappointed with Fforde's rendering of her character.

I am also reading Sacred Rhythms by Ruth Haley Barton.  I needed a new book to encourage my heart through this summer and this one has come highly recommended by trustworthy sources.  The first chapter already has encouraged and convicted me and made me relate to Jesus in a slightly new and different way that I am excited about.  More on that, perhaps, another time.

And just because... here is my favorite picture of the week, snapped  yesterday of Millie during 105 degree heat and lots of sprinkler and pool fun!

Joining up with Ginny's Yarn Along for fun and encouragement in my craft!

  1. love the picture with the water! what joy! that dress looks so beautiful! the colour of it so peaceful!

  2. Sarah ~ thanks for your comment ~ thought I would write here just so I was sure you got my reply... :) I am reading Edith Schaeffer's book right now! just blogged about it... really like it... more every day! was just reading from her 'food' chapter over lunch with my husband... :) What a blessing this book is to us! :) Oh, and I *always* have a thin plastic table cloth over my cloth table clothes - got it at Bed Bath and Beyond. Even though I don't have kids, still spills come quite regularly and with the plastic table cloth on top, I can have the most beautiful table cloths out without fear of ruining them! Laundry for Sure is a huge job and why make it bigger?! :) PS: see here for example on amazon...

  3. beautiful knitting but that last photo is so adorable! Sweet! I haven't listened to craft lit yet. when I get caught up on my very long list of podcasts I will give it a whirl.

  4. Rio is coming along! Sadly, my Oriental Lily for Miss Rosemary might be too long for her when the season is right? The measurements are right, but it just looks so long. That picture of Amelia is adorable--think I want it for my desk at work!

  5. Hi Sarah,
Thanks for coming over to my blog. This all looks lovely. Your dishcloth is knitted so neatly.
Jane Eyre has to be one of my all time favourites but like you haven't tried any of the contemporary adaptations...I think my daughter has on her book shelf so must go and have a root round.
Little Millie looks gorgeous...lovely red hair.
    Have a great weekend
