Yarn Along, October 16

This week I finished my little soaker but couldn't snap a picture at the moment because it is currently in need of a wash from a blowout diaper...so pictured above is my first colorwork project (does anyone else always feel that  colorwork should actually have the "u" for colourwork...? Why?).  I boldly cast on and started a pair of fingerless mitts using some sweet gifted Skacel HiKoo Simpliworsted, and it is going smoothly except for where I start a new row... I must do some research and will likely tear it out and start again at the colorwork section.... There it is lumpy with strange tension, not to mention the laddering...Can anyone enlighten me as to what I ought to be doing that would correct this? (see below...)

Not feeling terribly inspired by the project at the moment.  Maybe in part because I've been starting to figure out how to cut and sew a real live pattern (for a little girl apron... for a little girl who has been asking for an apron for awhile now...Christmas Christmas Christmas!  Can't believe I'm already thinking Christmas!).

Regarding bookish news, I've just finished Because of Winn-Dixie  by... who else?  Kate DiCamillo, my favorite.  And I have been poking slowly through Dracula, which I am finding to be an excellent creepy fall Halloween read.  I have been torn between listening to it on CraftLit and reading my hard copy, mostly because the main time I listen to podcasts is at night when I am laying in bed right now and Dracula hardly seems a wise choice for that.  BUT I so enjoy Heather Ordover's literary commentary and information that I decided to go ahead and listen to it.  So far I read one chapter and then listened to the same chapter afterward.  If you haven't checked out CraftLit, I highly recommend that you do so.  It is fun, and I learn so much each time I do, keeping my brain a little more active that it would otherwise be...

Well, that's all, folks... the Teething Monster has come to visit my Rosie and my hands-free time has been cut short these days!  Joining up with Ginny for Yarn Along today!  What have you been working on?  Leave me a comment so I can follow back and see!

I just finished knitting a cute little dress for my soon-to-be-born great niece and am now working on a pair of socks. I'm getting braver and braver - trying new techniques with good results. Now I have to learn how to properly block the dress! Praying that the teething monster doesn't stay too long...

    1. How fun! I wish I could see the little dress! Blocking isn't too hard at all! I bet it's just lovely!

Really like the colourwork project...here in Ireland and UK we'd never spell color without a u lol. I'm not sure if slipping the first stitch will do anything for the laddering and tension but it might be worth a try if I think of anything else I'll let you know.

    1. That's true about the "U" in color there- but I'm definitely not from the UK. I think it might just be the word color combined with another color... just looks funny to me! Thanks for the tip about slipping the first stitch - I didn't try that this time because I don't usually have too bad of a problem with laddering but I did rip back to the beginning of the Fair Isle section and will try your idea this time. I will keep seeking info online, there's so much to be had out there!
