Yarn Alongn't

Normally I try to join in with the Yarn Along fun over at Ginny's blog with my knitting but this week I just haven't done that much knitting so there's nothing to really show on that front.  Weird, I know.  DMC floss is... almost yarn, so I'm going to count it for the week.  Not sure why my knitting has been slow going, other than that the weather has been gorgeous so the girls have been outside and I've been taking advantage of this fact and tackling my annual fall cleaning and decluttering as well as a little bit of harvest and food preservation.  Instead of knitting I've been doing a little cross-stitch on a sampler that I've had sitting in a crate with other unfinished/unstarted projects for a few years.  I have several completed cross-stitch samplers, some really big and beautiful, that I have never gotten around to framing and I really ought to so I can display them in the house.

I made pear butter which was a multi-step process over a couple days. We went to the pumpkin patch.  We had a friend from Seattle visit on Saturday.  Rosie had roseola for a few days and was really fussy with a fever; I only knew it was roseola after the fever left and a rash appeared.  I got together with my new friend Lucy who is new on staff here with her family.  I did our bimonthly shopping trip which was particularly horrid this week... not to point fingers, but shopping with a two year old alone would be difficult enough but adding in a three year old and an infant makes me look like a traveling circus I guess.  Especially during bathroom/diaper changing trips.  I get the most incredulous looks when I am in the bathroom with all three girls trying to manage everyone going potty and washing hands at too-tall sinks and too-tall hand-dryers.  It's pretty funny and I can laugh about, especially the next day.

Well, looking back over this post I realize why I didn't do any knitting this week, especially since I didn't even include the regular daily stuff of running the household and the incredibly repetitive and mindnumbing work (just to be honest...) of teaching two small children how to love each other and play together without screaming tantrums and hitting or yelling or tattling.  But I won't share much more about that because really, who wants to hear that part of my week?  :)  But just know that it's there on a very regular basis.

Loving your cross stitch, it's been so long since I did some but the bug just went walkabouts so I decided to knit until it came back ! I'm not sure what I look like going shopping and I certainly wouldn't think you were a circus, now I would be guilty of looking but only because your girls are so gorgeous even with the daily mindnumbing work that comes with being a parent. It goes on in every house as every parent you talk to will say the same. I'm not sure if consolation is to be taken from that but it helps to know others are going through the same and that somehow helps also to get through repetitiveness. Hope you have a good week and thank you for stopping by.

Oh!!! I am right there with you. I too have 3 girls, age 4,2, and 5mo. I love being a stay at home mom, but there are DAYS when the insanity of it all is almost comical. I told my husband I just want a recording sometimes of the mayhem. Crying, whining, yelling, etc. It's good to know that I'm not alone. ( just happened upon you while checking out the yarn along and couldn't help but comment, your post made me smile)

  4. I love your sense of humor and it brings back memories of when my 4 were little and I would trudge to the store with all 4 of them...I remember trying to write a check and I always felt that Mother's with little children should qualify for handicapped parking what with strollers and only 2 hands! Your cross stitch is gorgeous and I too have pieces I've had for years and never framed...what' s up with that? I thought I was following you but you're not showing up in my reading list so I had better go write you in manually. I love your pictures of you and your family. Your Mother is right....they are just the sweetest!

    1. Oh, it's so true, I always look with such LONGING on all those empty disabled spots and then feel a little horrible for it! Haha! But otherwise I'm sometimes at the verrrrry end of the row far away from the cart return, etc which just makes it that much harder!

  5. Your comment made me laugh out loud Cassandra, because I can so relate, and because the idea of a recording of our house is hilarious! Mayhem indeed...
