Yarn Along

Over this week, I read A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, a book I somehow never read until we got married, and now ranks as a favorite.  The spiritual parallels loosed tears, over the descriptions of the heavenly beings to the battle for Meg's brother's soul; it seemed aimed towards those of us who experience a taste of the front lines of the spiritual battle for souls on this earth. I decided not to re-read the second in the series just yet, partly so I can stretch them out longer and partly because a hold request from the library came in, one I've seen several people on these Yarn Along days recommend:  The Scent of Water by Elizabeth Goudge.  It's slow and meandering and I am hardly into it, but the reviews on Amazon were highly favorable.

I am still knitting away on "Charlotte's Sunday Shrug" test knit.  I have been so lazy with my ravelry page and realized that I hadn't even started a project page for my own knit up of this shrug!  I am not terribly skilled at picking up stitches, and the whole button band is picked up, so my first try was ripped out as unsatisfactory.  Once I get that done, the rest of the project will fly by, I think.

We hacked back our old rose bushes last fall, and they are beautiful this year, or at least much more beautiful than they have been in previous years.

Joining up with Ginny's Yarn Along as always!

  2. I have to admit I am awful at keeping up my Rav page. I took pictures of my stash to put in there and that never happens. I'm just trying to keep the projects somewhat updated.

  3. Interesting that you like that book. My father passed away when I was a baby and when I read it in 4th grade, the spiritual aspects were WAY more than I could bear. I put it down and never looked back. Maybe I should try it again....

  4. What gorgeous pictures! I haven't read a Wrinkle in Time since I was very young. Thanks for sharing your perspective on it, it's very helpful as I think about my kids growing up and reading!

  5. I loved the Wrinkle in Time books- they are all so great. I think buttonholes are hard too but I'm glad the second try was better for you.

  6. OMG!! I totally recognized the hills in your photos (beautiful, by the way!) and I thought ... no way, is this blogger in Washington? How crazy! I grew up in Naches! Thanks for the glimpses of home!

  7. Sarah, catching up on blog reading this morning and hope you've had success with the picking up stitches. :) Wish I could pop over the Cascades real quick and help. :) Your view is gorgeous! Washington has the most stunning (and varied) vistas, doesn't it? My son recently read A Wrinkle in Time and loved it...couldn't stop talking about it. :)
