The little pool in our yard is in perpetual use this week with temperatures reaching the upper 90s and 100 degrees, and I am not ashamed to share that I pull on my swimsuit and pile into the cool water with my girls too. After cooling off, the blankets and towels spread on the shade invite me to pull out my knitting and munch a snack. Pandora summer tunes playing on my little phone and there is so much dancing here, dancing so often through the day. Girls grin big when they see Mama dancing too like a weird fool and Mama sheepishly gives thanks that we live in the country and the neighbors are at work during the day.
Bulle is coming along, with the bodice done and now onto the sleeves. Knitting is such a common occurrence here that no one takes much notice of what Mama knits or who it might be for, so I am able to knit this gift for Lyddie and no one even notices. I wonder if other moms have the same luck?
For reading, I'm still working my way through The Mystery of the Blue Train as well as listening to North and South through CraftLit. I've also returned to Narnia in The Magician's Nephew and I am just reading Aslan's beautiful creation of the world. All of a sudden while reading it, I thought "Wow, C.S. Lewis actually wrote these exact words. I wonder if writing these paragraphs was challenging, whether he had to revise them repeatedly and whether his friends weighed in on how to improve them." What a weird thought to have in the middle of reading the story but because the writing is so beautiful, the genius of Lewis shone through to me for a moment before I was lost in the story again.
While I know Yarn Along is about reading and knitting, my knitting often takes place while Jesse and I watch an hour or so of TV together after we get the kiddos in bed, so I thought I'd write a blurb about what we're watching these days. We just finished watching Veronica Mars (the series) for the second time through and were able to watch the movie for the first time. Oh my, I love Veronica Mars. Now we are on to watching the third season of Scandal a little at a time, which I am a little embarrassed to admit because it's a bit racier than a lot of the shows I watch but the characters are so intriguing and the dialogue in the first two seasons witty and fast paced. Apparently Gilmore Girls is coming in the mail from Netflix tomorrow and I've been wanting to watch that show for years now.
And that's that! Looking forward to seeing what others have been up to through Ginny's Yarn Along this week!
