glimpses: tree

Sparkling white lights nestled into green branches.  Smiles and squeals and ornaments everywhere, three on a branch in most places.  Cheesy fondue wrapped around bread, apples, mushrooms.  Music drifting around the room, twinkle lights peering in the window, cats curled up on the tree skirt.  Playmobil Nativity set up meticulously on the floor, all the gathered worshipers crowding the manger. Fragrance of pine and orange peels. Fake fire video flickering on TV screen (yes, we're desperate but the ambience was surprising).  This is one of my favorite memory-making nights of the year.

My Grams used to have a business making handmade home decor and she has given me several sweet Santas and snowmen that I love to put out in December. They all have such wonderful accessories and individual touches - one Santa holding a bag of pinecones or a mini-Christmas tree, buttons, hand-stitched laces on cloth boots.  Incredible and so special to me.

Happy December, my friends.  Thinking much about the Light of the world lately.  Every time I drive by a small group of lights dangling from eaves I am reminded that "the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it"!  "Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and praise your Father in heaven!"

  1. Very sweet! I love that your tree trimming was "an experience." This year our was done in bits and bobs over a few days with tissue paper all around our ankles. Julian worked while I trimmed. For everything there is a season - glad yours is like this!

  3. Love! I love Grandma's treasures scattered throughout your house. I love that the tradition of having special food for tree trimming has continued into your home too (side note: Austen and Kelly did too!). I love that you have 3 little girls, each contributing to the 3 ornaments on the branch phenomenon. I love that you are creating memories for your brood--something that I always felt was important in all my years as your mama. We will do our tree tomorrow night--Sam's request, as he has it off work. At one time, I actually thought it might just be me and dad this year alone. Andrew is even thinking of coming up and putting his ornaments on our tree again. Such a special surprise to hear him say that. My Grandma Aeline always said that the outdoor Christmas lights were like birthday candles for Jesus....
Love you to the moon and back! xoxoxo
