yarn along: willpower fail

This girl makes me laugh.  Sometimes she makes me pull out my hair but not as much as she used to.  I have never met a child with a better sense of humor.  She loves to laugh and although she thinks it's fun if you join in with the laughter, your laughter is probably not ever going to be the point of the thing.  She has always marched to the beat of her own drum.  Like when she was convinced that a plastic bread-tie clip could be worn hooked on a stretchy headband and got it to church without me noticing.... and the way she likes to wear leggings with crew socks pulled up over the pant legs in a very awkward sort of DIY-tights...  She's got fashion ideas all her own, that's for certain. I love that about her, regardless of how crazy it can make me.  I am filled with wonder and awe at the unique personality each of my children have.  She was a cuddly baby and continues to be a cuddly preschooler.  I love this little Millie of mine. Yesterday evening I couldn't decide whether I preferred watching my favorite Christmas special, The Grinch, or watching her watch the Grinch...

We began our Christmas family devotional, Unwrapping the Greatest Christmas which I'm sure you've seen everywhere by now.  We went through it last year with the Jesse tree and I really loved it; it fits perfectly with the big picture of Scripture and the covenants and God and the world that we are always talking about in our family.  I am also reading the "adult" version (The Greatest Christmas).  Ann Voskamp's writing has been a consistent encouragement in my life and heart the past four years and I am thankful for that. I'm still "reading" a few other books but they've been set aside for the next couple weeks to give me time to enjoy Advent.  I am in love with Carolyn Haywood's children's books (Lyddie is reading Here's a Penny to me a couple pages at a time and we love it!) and so I pulled Merry Christmas from Eddie off the bookshelf and read a chapter to Lyddie this afternoon. Wonderful and perfect for a six year old.

I am almost finished with my little foxy hood and now that I have enough yarn I should be able to finish it up quickly!  I am frogging a couple rows on my Hitofude again but it's on the back burner for some secret knitting because lo and behold!  Despite my determination not to knit for Christmas....guess what I've been doing?  WHY?!  At least I have picked some simple projects and I think this little Scallops hat is going to be so cute in the two tone pinks I have pulled out of my stash for my Rosie-pie.  Don't you think it's adorable?  I'm adjusting the pattern to use worsted weight since that's what I've got.  She started asking for a new hat this week and what knitting mama can refuse really?  So casting on I go, heigh-ho-the-derry-oh....

What insane projects did you decide to take on in this last push to the holidays?  Did you do better than me at resisting the siren call of handknit gifts?  Joining up with the Yarn Along hosted by Ginny - leave me a note here and then pop over to see more lovely yarn goodness!

  3. I knit nothing for Christmas except a little cup cozy for C's teacher. C's nickname is Millie...we gave her that before she was born. Bryan was tired of me calling her Jr. The scallop hat will be adorable...can't wait to see it!

    1. Funny! Millie is a nickname for Amelia but we also called her that before birth because we picked the name and the nickname intentionally!

  4. What a little sweetie! That personality will stand her in good stead as she gets older. I'm rooting for you in getting all your gifts completed in time.
    Blessings, Betsy

  5. Oh my sweet Millie Bird! She has been her own little person since birth, that is for sure. I love her dress--seems I remember a certain Sarah Ann wearing it about 27 years ago! Give her smooches from her Mimi! xoxoxo

  6. Oh sweet Millie!
I am going to start my 2nd pair of fingerless gloves for Stephanie. She asked for a pair for Christmas, and like you I just can't disappoint. I hope I can get them done in time with everything that is due in the next couple of weeks.

This is Mandy by the way. :) I didn't see that I needed to change the name until it was too late.
