maybe next week there will be actual knitting

(The Columbia River seen from the Washington side during a hike we did last week)
My knitting hasn't gone anywhere fast this week.  It is really hard for me to start projects when I'm anxious or stressed about something so since I finished my cardigan and I haven't been too enthused about the hat patterns for Jesse that I was working on, it has been hard to pick up my knitting needles while waiting for my preliminary results from my thyroid testing.  That pattern Jesse said he liked last week was striped but as we looked at the earflaps I had knit in the striped pattern we realized his favorite yarn of the two just wasn't featured well by the stripes.  I suggested maybe a solid hat with a geometric stranded pattern in it and his eyes lit up - he was immediately thinking of a Pendleton hat he has with Native designs in it.  So since I couldn't find any charts I liked that would fit on a hat (all of them being at last 45 rows long which would make a rather large worsted hat I think) I made up my own.  Ha!  How do you like me now?  We'll see how it goes but I have it mapped out pretty thoroughly and I'm going to go for it. ....Just as soon as I rip back the earflaps to reclaim my yarn. Maybe next week I'll have some actual knitting to show you.  I have been working on my cross-stitch sampler every evening which takes much less thinking and planning than this crazy hat has.

I'm just finishing Hamlet which I'd never read nor seen and now I want to go hunt down some of the versions recommended on Chop Bard.  I found he was paraphrasing more than I wanted at least on these early versions of the podcast so I pulled out our hard copy and read it instead and plan to continue listening to it on CB as well.  I'm also reading Outlander by Gabaldon and picked up a fun Julia Child biography at the library on a whim this week, Julia Child Rules: Lessons on Savoring Life and it is proving to be a fun and lighthearted quick read. I have actually never once seen Julia Child's show(s) that I can remember but of course read/watched Julie and Julia a few years back as an introduction to her life and now I'm slightly fascinated by the woman.  Is there a place to access any of her shows online, preferably free?  Wouldn't that be fun?

That's all for now, I hope you are having a great week and look forward to stopping by your corners this week.  Joining up with Yarn Along at Ginny's!

I remember watching Julia Child on tv when I was a kid, she is still dear to my heart.

  2. Great view of the river! Any new word on your thyroid? I have Hashimoto's and have had it (and been on meds) since I was 8.

  4. I love the pretty flowers decorating the shoreline on your hike. The sandhill cranes have JUST returned to our fields here in Wisconsin which means spring is right around the corner. I can't wait!

  5. I think it is okay to have down time between projects and recharge. I know some people feel knitting helps with anxiety and stress, which I agree with to a point, but I know when I am super upset, I just can't knit. So hang in there. Next week will be better.

I think that your reading choices sound very interesting. I was thinking of reading Outlander even though it isn't the type of thing I would usually read. Ive been looking out for the first book in the library. I also have the Julia Child n my must-read list as I really love books about food that are mainly text/story rather than mainly recipes. I also have a really great edition of Hamlet half read that I bought after seeing Benedict Cumberbatch in the play earlier this year. We could easily have a little book club based on that mix of shared interests! lovely to visit your blog.
